Rainy Day, Not So Bad
posted by Brian van de Graaff: Meteorologist

I just got back from a mini-vacation to the desert southwest.  It was super sunny and quite warm with toasty highs in the upper 80s.  Great weather to sit back at the pool and dive into a good book.  (Of course I slathered on the old SPF 30, got to be safe.) But while I enjoyed the arid climate at first, I did not acclimate so well to the dryness.

Dust, dust everywhere is the way of life and I am not sure if or what was in bloom but my sinuses went out of whack and my eyes wept.  I should have known something was amiss when I awoke the first morning and was met with the comment like “are you OK?”  “Is something wrong?”

So what is the point of all this...well I couldn't have been happier to return home to find overcast skies and moist air greeting me at the terminal.  Almost instantly I began to feel close to normal.  Now this is not a dis on the southwest!  I enjoy the heat and sun, but the dry climate can stay out there.

While I may have different thoughts come the sticky dead of summer, I welcome these rainy gray days.  Although the pollen will be coming forth with a vengeance soon and once again my sinuses will go haywire.

Thanks for reading and have a great, moist, dreary day!
