Taking a look at the image above, you can see the area shaded in red spanning from New York City down through Maryland and southwest through Virginia and into North Carolina. This graphic displays wind speeds in knots at 850mb, or nearly 5,000 ft. With the peaks of the Blue Ridge mountains at or near this level in the atmosphere, you can see why a High Wind Watch was placed in effect for areas to our west! Even locally however, winds at 925mb (not shown) show a low level jet around 50 knots as well, so some very gusty winds may be possible over the entire region through the day tomorrow.

Here is a graphic from the HPC (Hydrometeorological Prediction Center) which shows the total rainfall from this morning through Monday morning. The maximum of 5.5 inches is located towards Long Island, CT, RI, and MA where they may have two shots of moisture. The first being from this system and the next possibly from the remnants of the system that was causing the massive flooding over Hispaniola. Our region looks to be spared but will still see considerable rainfall with the chance to get over 2 inches through Saturday morning.
