Sunshine, stat !
posted by Doug Hill

I have always known that I am a weather sensitive person. But it has only been in recent years that I have realized that I am addicted to sunshine. When we have weather patterns like this one, where we are shrouded in clouds for 3 days, I start to go through all the signs of sunshine withdrawl. It is not pretty. My wife and kids were the first to notice this about me, actually. I get moody, depressed and sleep more than usual. I don't think it's S.A.D.( seasonal affective disorder) I just like blue skies and sunshine. I prefer the sunshine to be accompanied by warm temperatures, but cold temperarures are ok too. I just need sunshine.

So far this week, there has been no sunshine. Tomorrow will dawn cloudy and cool and damp and drizzly. And when the alarm goes off at 7 am to prepare me for my first WTOP radio forecast of the day, and I look outside, I will not be happy. It will be day 4 without the sun. I suppose we could see a little sunshine break through during the day and again on Thursday. But I am afraid the damage has already been done. Welcome to my world.

Over the years, I have received a lot of mail from viewers who say that I have a habit of defining nice days as being the sunny ones and the lousy days as the cloudy ones. Am I that transparent ?  Oh well, the sun will shine when it does and won't when it doesn't. And I  know the weather pattern will change and I'll get my sunny days. Thanks for letting me vent . I feel a little better. Good night.

Doug

Speaking of sunny, warm days... I have a trivia question to ask.

I can't remember a March when we didn't have at leat ONE day that hit 80 degrees during that transitional month. And I believe (as of today, 4/10, although it's close today) we still haven't hit it yet as an official high. When is the latest in the year we have had an 80 degree day? Could we be setting another "gloabl warming" record?

Thanks for your time and keep up the great work!!
