    Dale Earnhardt Jr., NASCAR's most popular driver, won Sunday's season-opening Daytona 500 at the same track where his father died in 2001. Earnhardt Jr.'s win snapped a 55-race losing streak that dated back to 2012.

    Jason Collins became the NBA's first active openly gay player Sunday, signing a 10-day contract with the Brooklyn Nets. With a need for another big man, the Nets turned to the 7-foot Collins, who helped them reach two NBA Finals in the early 2000s.
