I saw a meteor in Fairfax in the southern sky on November 30, 2011 at 21:20 while walking my dog. It was bright orange, broke up into to hundres of pieces. Because I could make out the individual pieces I felt it landed nearby, possibly in Prince William County. The entire event lasted for about 4 seconds.
I saw a similar object this evening around about 50 miles east of DC moving towards DC. It lasted about 3 Seconds and was incredibly bright. It seemed very low in the hemisphere. It occurred around 7:30.
Michael, that's cool but I think you mean very low in the atmosphere, or maybe horizon? not "hemisphere". I love a good meteor shower, unfortunately the moonlight will interfere with this year's Geminid display coming up in a couple weeks. Geminids consist of mind blowing streaks of multi colored meteors.
