ABC7/NewsChannel8 is searching for a candidate with strong editorial skills and knowledge of the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Candidate should thrive on competition and have a desire to break stories from the assignment desk. Duties include developing, implementing, and executing daily logistics for both WJLA-TV and NewsChannel8. Candidate will complete daily phone beat checks to public safety agencies, develop and maintain strong working relationship with the overnight photographers to ensure that all desired news is obtained and the proper news judgment is utilized. Candidate must be able to marshal resources and staff when major news is breaking, maintain liaison with producers and managers regarding story development and completed assignments. Candidate will book and coordinate satellite times for SNG vehicles, create, development, and set up stories for reporters. Candidate will work with executive producers to set deadlines for morning reporters and field crews, manage process of all field crews during shifts.

Key Qualifications:

Minimum of 1 year experience on a TV News Assignment Desk or other related news-gathering position. College degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, or equivalent. Must be able to attend work regularly, and available to work occasional weekends, holidays and overnight hours.
