With Tuesday's kickoff to the National Cherry Blossom Festival set, some visitors got an early glimpse of the gorgeous pink trees at the tidal basin over the weekend.

The National Park Service is now saying that the peak bloom of D.C.'s iconic cherry blossoms may come even earlier than the originally estimated March 24 date.

A nearly non-existent winter and warmer than average temperatures will have things blooming near the Tidal Basin earlier than usual - peak bloom for the cherry blossoms is expected to come before the end of March again.

Cherry blossoms to bring large crowds, traffic congestion

The mild weather, combined with cherry blossoms and large crowds, could be slowing down drivers around the National Mall. But the Park Service is already making some changes to help the flow of traffic.
