First D.C. Area Baby of '08 Born

Melanie Smith Jones gave birth to a baby girl, Stella, at 12:02 a.m. Stella weighed in at 8 pounds and 10 ounces. Melanie and her husband Justin Philip Jones both reside in Columbia Heights.
Another local baby was born around 12:30 a.m. Tarenzo Jennings weighed in at 9 pounds, 1 ounce at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital in Fairfax. Tarenzo's dad, a marine, is returning to Camp Lejeune in North Carolina and expected to be in the area in another three weeks.
