Public officials from all over the state are headed to Cambridge Wednesday for an annual conference previewing hot legislative topics this year.
The Maryland Association of Counties puts on the conference, where local officials hear from state agencies and lawmakers about what changes are coming. The conference offers a preview of hot topics coming up in the legislative session, which begins a week from Wednesday. The talks include a discussion of how the state plans to spend new money for road construction. The officials will also talk about jail overcrowding, managing water use and growth and how Maryland plans to implement a smoking ban that takes effect next month.
