MarkF, if you ask me, breaking news regarding Joe Gibbs is far more important that anything that would ever spew out of Owl Gore's mouth.

mythoughts
goodsense - you are making goodsense, but you are not totally correct. you are so wrong about snyder and gibbs' relationship and the so called quiet firing. this wa not an arranged firing or mutual agreement. snyder has so much respect for joe gibbs and looks up to him,,, gibbs could have stayed much longer...believe me.. ask me how i know - i know folks who are at the game - in the suite (snyders) or with him at every game. this is actually a loss for snyder.... gibbs will continue to be a big part of snyder and the entire redskin organization. believe me on that.

so slow down because i know you thinking makes goodsense - at least to someone who doesnt know --- but you are not correct.. keep in mind that this has been a very tough season for the redskins and who could have handled this season any better than a person like joe gibbs.

i am okay with him leaving because he wants to but i would have also been okay if he had stayed. i am shocked.

A REAL CLASS GUY AND A GREAT COACH. THREE SUPER BOWLS . HOW MANY DID THEY HAVE BEFORE HE GOT HERE?

I am 33 year old women who was born and raised in Washington DC NE. right around the corner from the RFK stadium (the true home of the skins) I grew on the redskins and coach gibbs. How very calm he was and how he executed each play. I grew to love football. In DC we love the skins until the very end and there after and same goes for Coach Gibbs..he is like my personal family and he will truly be missed.

It doesn't make me mad that he's retiring. I could really care less. However, it makes me mad that 3 of the local television stations deam it so important that they interrupt their regular broadcasting for his news conference. Think about it...he's just a football coach. Is he going to get the Pulitzer Prize for this or something?

etchAsketch....

I see where Eboy is coming from. Similar to Andy Reid. I would think in his instance he would leave the Eagles and take care of home.

You don't need the ability of magic to justify your actions. He is suppose to be a family first man.

He had his glory with the skins. Now he has a grandson that could use him in come capacity. We never know what his presence might bring.

That is his grandson, so his child however grown could use his service the media has pushed out on the world as being the only difference maker with the skins getting over Sean Taylor.

The fans believe Gibbs waves a magic wand when it comes to football why not believe he can do it when it comes to his own family?

etchAsketch
Eboy,

Are you implying that he should have slept within spitting distance of his grandson. What would that have accomplished? I'm sure that he was there, emotionally, financially, etc... Short of waving his magic wand to make the lukemia go away, what more could he have done?

Eboy
The man has neglected his entire family all his life. In that respect, I consider Joe Gibbs a failure. Sleeping at Redskins Park when he has a grandson with leukemia? Come on. At 67, it is too late for him to make up for lost time.

SpareMe... I'm with you. I told this board at the beginning of the season Snyder would make it look like he wasn't fired. LOL! If he wanted a 3 year contract and was so dedicated to the team and fans what could have possibly changed since a 3 yr offer was suppose to be on the table for him? Hmmmm.... I know the media and the fans love him, but they loved Landry too.

Snyder respected the man so he gave him a respectful send off, but anyone looking at this will see Snyder said bye!

Gibbs is a good man, but back when he came in I told you he cameback for the strike that could have happened. It didn't and so it makes it much harder for him to win a legit Super Bowl other than his last one. LOL!

You guys go ahead and wish him well, but for 27 million and not finishing out his contract any other coach you would have asked for their head. You guys are as bad as Hillary placing an onion under a nail to help her cry when she brings her hand up to her face.

Quite honestly I think this is the best thing that could happen to your team. No more OLD tricks. I think the OC has been limited in what he wanted to do with this team. The defense needs to stop restocking OLD players and I think that will happen as well.

Finally... in the future listen to my assessment with a bias ear. You'll find out your team disappointments and accomplishments won't come as such a surprise. ;-)

SpareMe
Be it the player, the coach or the owner....One man doesn't make a team.

27.5 million..there is no need to wish him well...he is very well.

Oh, no! Gibbs has taken the 'Skins to the playoffs and Super Bowl many times over the years; PLUS, he seems to be a truly "genuine", down to earth person. While I'm sad to see him go, I wish him every success in his future plans.

MD_Crab
I'm sorry to see Joe leave. Probably the best thing he can do, as he looks awful tired, and needs a break.

gloria1107
I think that is a wise decision and I am so proud of Joe Gibbs and what he has accomplished plus he is just a real gentleman. Good luck Joe in whatever you do - you are the best! We will miss you but thanks for coming back and giving it the good old college try.
