A broken-down motorcyclist was hit by an SUV Tuesday evening in Glen Echo and sent to the hospital with serious injuries.

It happened in the westbound lane on the Clara Barton Parkway at the ramp to Cabin John Parkway around 6:20 p.m. United States Park Police said the man was hit on the parkway by a black Chevy Suburban while he waited for help.

ABC 7 News myTAKE - What's Your Opinion?The victim was taken to an area hospital in serious condition. The driver of the SUV stopped after the accident and is cooperating with investigators.

Police blocked off the left lane of the parkway for crash reconstruction and the investigation. Traffic was able to access Cabin John Parkway or continue on westbound Clara Barton Parkway.
