Dominion Virginia Power said people have bought nearly 569,000 energy-saving light bulbs under its discount program.


The Richmond-based utility is offering $1.50 off single packs and $3 off multipacks of compact fluoresecent bulbs purchased at Home Depot stores in northern, eastern and central Virginia. In three months, customers bought 568,822 bulbs, which consume about 75 percent less energy than traditional bulbs, and can last up to 10 times longer.

ABC 7 News myTAKE - What's Your Opinion?The utility said it aims to distribute 2.25 million discounted bulbs each year through 2009 and is looking to offer the discount at more retailers.

Does Dominion Virginia Power have a return or recycling program for these bulbs? Or Home Depot? Does anyone in the area? I haven't heard anyone address this, and it should be considered now, not later when our landfills are full of the mercury from millions and millions of these bulbs.
