The Northern Virginia Transportation Authority is getting behind plans for a streetcar line.

The agency approved nearly $37 million for a 4.7-mile line along Columbia Pike, connecting Pentagon City to the Skyline area in Fairfax County.

Supporters believe streetcars are more appealing to potential transit users than buses and can reduce congestion on area roads, but there are skeptics.

ABC 7 News myTAKE - What's Your Opinion?Meanwhile, the plan will go nowhere if the authority doesn't win a Virginia Supreme Court challenging its ability to raise taxes.

Advocates hope the streetcar line would be the first in a network stretching from Alexandria to Tysons Corner.

Yeah great a 4.7 mile orphan project that will further congest the roads with a slow moving behemoth. Yet another great idea but another level of bureaucracy, problem is this one wasn't voted in, they were appointed like royalty. You gotta love the Democrats.
