Community groups in the District are sponsoring a town hall-style meeting that will focus on ways to combat the city's high rates of AIDS and HIV infections.
Tuesday's meeting inside Luther Place Memorial Church on Vermont Avenue in Northwest begins at 7 p.m. and will include political, religious and social leaders.
City health officials say Washington has the highest AIDS rate among major cities across the country.
According to a study by the city's HIV/AIDS Administration and George Washington University, there are roughly 128 cases of AIDS per 100,000 city residents. That far surpasses the national average of 14 cases per 100,000 people.
