Hearing on Planned Muslim Retreat to Resume
posted 8:29 am Mon January 14, 2008 - Walkersville, Md.
Walkersville's Board of Zoning Appeals is expected Monday night to resume hearings about the Muslim worship and recreation center proposed for local farmland.
The board must decide whether to allow an exception for a non-farm use of the land.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community wants to use existing buildings and erect a new building. The facilities would be a place of worship and the site of an annual religious retreat that could draw at least 5,000 people each summer.
The hearings began last week and could continue several more days.
