WASHINGTON - D.C. police announce they have a suspect in the case of a woman who's been missing for more than 11 years.

Shaquita Bell's family last saw her on June 27th, 1996, when she was 23. Her family believes she was killed, but her remains have never been found.

The day Bell disappeared, she was with her boyfriend, Michael Dickerson, who had been charged with assaulting her.

Authorities searched for her body last year in Prince George's County.

Tuesday, police named Bell's boyfriend, Michael Dickerson, as the suspect in her disappearance case.

Police suspect that Dickerson first killed Sean Anthony Thomas in February of 1996 and murdered Bell later that year, because the 23-year-old mother of 3, knew about Thomas' murder.

Dickerson, who was convicted in the assault case and is now serving a 15-year prison term.

Dickerson has denied involvement in Bell's disappearance and her body has yet to be found.

Chief Cathy Lanier (web|news|bio) said she is very encouraged after detectives re-interviewed the suspect and she is very optimistic authorities will find Bell's remains.
