Police Plan to Increase Presence in Adams Morgan, Shaw
   posted 7:49 am Tue January 15, 2008 - Washington
D.C. police plan to increase patrols in several neighborhoods as they seek to reduce robberies in Adams Morgan and gang violence in Shaw.

Both neighborhoods in Northwest have seen an increase in redevelopment, and police say money pouring into the communities has created a new crime landscape.

In Adams Morgan, police say teams of plainclothes officers will target suspects without being recognized. Police also plan to place patrol officers in a dozen spots along 18th Street and Columbia Road to control crowds in the popular entertainment district and respond to calls.

ABC 7 News myTAKE - What's Your Opinion? In the Shaw neighborhood, police will hold outdoor roll calls to show off the size of the force. Police on foot patrols also will knock on doors and visit with at least 20 residents a day.

As long as there is a visible presence consistently, this is a good thing. It may not stop everything, but it will deter a lot of the nonsense in that area. Wear comfortable shoes!
