With the blessing of state regulators, Virginia's biggest utility will soon begin nine energy conservation pilot programs.

The State Corporation Commission approved Dominion Virginia Power's pilot programs on Thursday. Dominion said some of the programs will begin by spring and are designed to complement the state's efforts to reduce electrical consumption 10 percent by 2022.

ABC 7 News myTAKE - What's Your Opinion? The programs will be offered to 4,550 customers selected by the company.

Programs that focus on saving energy include informing consumers about their real-time energy consumption patterns, promoting programmable thermostats that allow customers to control electricity use and educating customers about reducing energy use during peak-use times.
