A Republican lawmaker is seeking to block pay raises given to members of the state's Public Service Commission.

Delegate Patrick McDonough says members of the commission are seeing their paychecks grow while Marylanders are facing higher utility bills. McDonough says many in Annapolis feel the commission is not doing enough about rising energy rates. The PSC chairman's salary for the current fiscal year is more than $188,000, up from $129,000 for the prior year. The four other members are now paid about $127,000, up from $86,000.

The increases came after Gov. Martin O'Malley, who made rising utility bills a key part of his campaign for governor, forced out the previous chairman and appointed two other commissioners.
