A Howard University soccer coach and charter school math teacher, arrested in Lousia County, Virginia as part of an online sex sting, faced a judge for a bond hearing, Friday.
Authorities took 40-year-old Joseph E. Okoh into custody after police said he drove from his Arlington, Va. home to meet who he believed was a 13-year-old girl that he had been talking to over the internet.
Louisa County sheriff's office said the coach was talking in a Yahoo Instant Message chat room and that they were "shocked" by how quickly the suspect wanted to meet with the girl after just striking up a conversation.
"If he hadn't been caught in Louisa, again not specifically commenting to this case, but if that particular individual in any case hadn't been caught in one locality, he would have continued to prey," said Louisa County Commonwealth's Attorney Tom Garrett.
Okoh was arrested on the side of the road at a predetermined location and charged him with one felony count of using a computer to solicit a person under 15-years-old with lascivious intent.

In the bond hearing, details of the instant message conversation were discussed including the type of sex the two could have and the hotels in Fredericksburg. Several team members and Okoh's son were present for the hearing.
Okoh is in his first season as Head Men's Soccer coach at Howard. ABC 7/NewsChannel 8 uncovered Okoh is also a seventh and eighth grade math teacher at Meridian Charter School on Florida Avenue in NW. Howard University issued a statement saying Okoh has been suspended from all University activities and duties pending completion of the investigation and resolution of this matter.
The prosecution argued that Okoh was a risk to children and should stay behind bars until his next court date. The Judge agreed.
He
faces up to 10 years in prison and/or up to a $2,500 fine.
