Rep. Wynn Accuses Opponent of Improper Fundraising
posted 6:32 am Wed January 30, 2008 - WASHINGTON
Maryland Congressman Albert Wynn is accusing his chief rival in the Democratic congressional primary, Donna Edwards, of fundraising improprieties. The (Baltimore Sun) reports that the Wynn campaign has filed a 34-count complaint with the Federal Elections Commission, alleging that Edwards' campaign is collaborating with several contributing organizations to exceed federal fundraising limits.
Edwards dismissed the complaint in a statement calling it "a desperate 11th hour attempt" by Wynn.
Wynn's 4th District straddles Montgomery and Prince George's counties. He defeated Edwards by about 3 percent of the vote in the 2006 Democratic primary.
An attorney with the independent Campaign Legal Center in Washington, asked by The Sun to review the complaint, says the facts don't seem to constitute illegal collaboration.
