(Sports Network) - Andrew Cogliano scored the game-winning goal near the halfway mark of the third period as the Edmonton Oilers edged the New York Islanders, 3-2, at Rexall Place.

Jason Strudwick and Kyle Brodziak each had a goal for the Oilers, who have won five of their last seven games. Dwayne Roloson made 25 saves in the win.

Blake Comeau and Kyle Okposo each lit the lamp for the Islanders, who have dropped five of six and are in the midst of a 13-game road losing streak. Joey MacDonald stopped 23 shots in the loss.

With half of their games played this season, the Islanders find themselves with a record of 12-25-4, putting the team in last place overall in the NHL.

With the score tied in the second period, Edmonton took the lead as Marc Pouliot took a one-timer from the top of the right circle that hit off of Ethan Moreau in front of the net, but Cogliano was there to knock in the rebound with 10:02 to play.

Edmonton held off New York from there to give the home crowd a victory.

The Islanders struck quick as Okposo's snap shot from the left circle found its way past the glove of Roloson just 4:02 in.

New York tallied another goal late in the period while skating on the power play. Josh Bailey held the disc and got it to Comeau, who snapped a wrist shot between the pads of Roloson with just 2.5 seconds left on the first period clock.

Edmonton responded in the second period with two goals to tie the game.

The first goal came at the 10:50 mark of the frame as Brodziak threw a shot on net from the right boards that hit off the skate of New York's Brendan Witt and got past MacDonald.

Later in the frame, the Oilers tied it as Zack Stortini fought off a checker on his way to the back of the net and centered the puck off the right skate of Strudwick and past MacDonald at the 13:58 mark of the frame.
