(Sports Network) - Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson acknowledged what had been rumored prior to San Diego's AFC wild card win against Indianapolis last Saturday -- that the star is dealing with a torn tendon in his groin, leaving him doubtful for Sunday's matchup against the Steelers.

Tomlinson revealed the extent of the injury following practice Wednesday, with the San Diego Union-Tribune reporting that the tendon is detached from the bone but not completely torn.

Chargers head coach Norv Turner earlier stated that Tomlinson's status for the game will be determined later in the week, and he pointed out again Wednesday that the injury is not any worse than it was last week.

Tomlinson sat out the entire second half of the team's wild card win and told the team's website Wednesday he thought the injury may have been aggravated after slipping on a touchdown run early in the second quarter. He recorded 25 yards on five rushes with the touchdown against the Colts.

Tomlinson labeled himself doubtful and added the groin isn't much better, four days removed from action.

Tight end Antonio Gates is still dealing with a high ankle sprain and also sat out practice Wednesday, but expects to play Sunday. Gates was questionable with the same injury heading into last Saturday's game and recorded a team- best eight receptions for 87 yards.
