Kaine Asks for Help With Dulles Metro Plan

Virginia Governor Timothy Kaine is asking for guidance from federal regulators to help save the long-awaited extension of Metrorail to Dulles International Airport.
In a letter Friday to the U.S. Transportation Department and Federal Transit Administration, Kaine offers no specific changes to the plan himself. He included hundreds of documents to back up his claim that issues raised with the project had been addressed previously.
But Kaine strikes a conciliatory tone in seeking specific directions on how to fix the $5 billion project.
Kaine is responding to the FTA's decision that the Dulles rail project would not qualify for critical federal funding without major changes.
More than $140 million in state and federal funds has already been spent on the project.
