Maryland Prepares for Chesapeake Primary
posted 8:21 am Thu February 07, 2008 - ANNAPOLIS, Md.
Maryland is getting its turn in the national spotlight.
Maryland's Republican and Democratic presidential primaries are next Tuesday. Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is scheduled tonight to visit an American Legion Post in Halethorpe, the site of the Baltimore County GOP's annual Lincoln/Reagan Dinner.
Democratic Congressman Al Wynn expects Sen. Barack Obama to stump in Prince George's County at some point before the primary. Democratic Party officials in Maryland also expect an Obama visit, though they can't confirm details.
Maryland politicians from both parties are betting more candidates will visit the region before Tuesday.
State elections officials are revising their turnout projections upward because the national nominating contests remain undecided. They're predicting a turnout of about 35 percent - up from the 30 percent projected a month ago.
