Forum Allows Residents to Question Fort Detrick Officials
posted 8:44 am Thu February 07, 2008 - FORT DETRICK, Md.
Fort Detrick officials are trying to answer questions from citizens about expansion plans at the post.
Colonel George Korch fielded most of the questions at last night's community forum. Korch is the commander of the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases, which is expected to more than double in size in the next few years. Korch says the government is not pursuing offensive bioweapons research, and he says no one in Frederick has even been injured by research at Fort Detrick.
Citizens opposed to the expansion plan want government officials in Frederick City and Frederick County to seek a court review of the plan's environmental impact statement.
