Some Anne Arundel County residents got a surprise on Valentine's Day when the special delivery at their door turned out to be an arrest warrant.

Sheriff Ron Bateman's office dressed up a van with a "Flowers by Ron" logo, called the homes of criminal suspects who'd been dodging police, and set up a time for them to be home to get a Valentine's Day delivery. A sergeant dressed as a delivery person then arrived with empty boxes of roses at the homes of the ladies and gift baskets at the homes of the men. When the recipients signed for their package, they were placed under arrest.

ABC 7 News myTAKE - What's Your Opinion?The ruse nabbed 12 suspects.

Last fall, Bateman sent letters promising tax refunds to suspects if they'd appear at a state office. Forty showed up and were arrested.
