Rog35-- thanks for your response. and there is still more info. that is coming out. yes, i will say that the people shouldn't have been in the road. but know i believe it has been confirmed that the driver was driving on a suspended license--well he shouldn't have been on the road either.

no, i haven't heard that he was actually a spectator. yes, i did see the accident area--as i said in another post maybe he tried to swerve not realizing how many people were out there and that some were actually in that area as well

Fredman
The only victim is the drver of the white Vic and his passanger. He should sue each person how recklessly stood in the middle of a major highway in the dark

Fredman
Some one should tell those people that when their parents told them to play in traffic, they were kidding.

Winstrv & Coffeehigh --- applause, applause!

sorryajfrye-Yes they do know because i had spoken to an officer about it and he said that he had heard those same comments frmo other people but that doesnt mean its gonna be put into the news for everyone to know. Also yes it is supposedly because it may not have been him on 214 but another White Vic driving recklessly..my whole point dont sit here and blame the victims and also assume that the driver had nothing to do with it. Wait till all the facts and information to gather and do the investigation and also I was out there that following night and if you look at the scene you will notice there are not any skid smarks up until right before the path where the car hit the grass and went out of control and also one my friends is a volunteer FF, and he had pointed out what all the markings meant.

sorryajfrye
ROg35--so did you do the right thing and pass this information to the proper authorities?? oh, and are these facts or opinions (which you are entitled too , like everyone else) but i do recall a "supposedly" in there.

Rog35
You say take it on the track, how do you know we dont take it on the track but also you have to remember that not every track allows open racing. The owner at Capitol doesnt even want the track anymore and wants to sell it. But once they do that...where you think the races are gonna go to? Capitol Raceway offers open racing once or twice a week but it would only be in the afternoon or in the evening from 3-11pm and than its shut down because of those sound laws, yeah theres MIR in budd creek but they have the same time except when they do Midnight madness but thats not often and its open till 1am. Also how do you know we havent tried to find places that we can go to at night, we have made phone calls to people and tried to do it the rigt way. I know people who have even called Bowie airport to use there runway in the night. You know what the excuse was...they have planes landing at 2am which is complete BS because there arent any planes landing at the time. and we would have made it safe and secure to race because had a full plan to keep it legit and on a track. But how can we do all by ourselves if we cant get the town and county to help us. There is even an old track in Aquasco, MD called Aquasco raceway which was closed in 1978 and its just sitting there with no developement around there...we have even tried to get that to be opened up or a group to chip in and buy so we can have a place to go...but guess what...no one wants to help us out point us in the right direction...so where does everyone go to...the street. So dont talk about what you dont know.

Rog35
But say for instance there was smoke/fog or whatever...common sense would tell you to slow down and apply the brakes and have your lights on..the Vic driver didnt do any of those. so tell me how is that not possible. also how may pedestrian accidents do we hear in the area but you dont hear about people limbs breaking apart from the body or being decapitated from thos accidents but from this one accident you hear all of those things and also look at pics of the Vic, look how much damage is done to it just by hitting people so how fast do you think that Vic was actually going...atleast 70mph.

Yes street racing is illegal and yes we know its wrong, yes its a rush, but everyone is acting like its brand new...I am sure some of you have been out there in DC when street racing was held back on V street, and than also at Metro, and if you werent there your parents were or grandparents. So obvioulsy its been around for a long time.

Rog35
All of you who blame the people street racing dont have flunkin clue what you are talking about....you all just go and talk about what is being said in the news but everyone knows nothing is true about what you hear, but on this situation you all are saying the news is right. All I am saying you should hold and reserve judgment. you all are the law and you are not God, so for some of you who say the victims deserved it should go to hell.

Also that night it wasnt a bunch of kids out there..it was actually the old school guys that were with there classic cars, so dont go quick on blaming the young stupid kids...but yes you can blame the young 20 yr old driver of the Vic. What you dont hear on the news was that he was on a court date for a suspended license....you also didnt hear that he was actually at teh races watching, you also didnt hear that he was told by a bunch of people to leave because he was acting a fool and being reckless and also what you didnt hear was that he was also speeding around largo on 214 in central avenue. ealrier that night around mitchellville plaza. Everyone is making it seem like he is innocent...people are talking about there was a lot of smoke and stuff when there really wasnt. for one thing its cold out so when you have tires spinning its gonna take a lot to ge tthe smoking because the tires are cold and so is the ground...people are making it seem like your at burnout box at a real track and in those cases the cars have on slicks or drag radials. And if you actually talk to people that were there they will tell you that there wasnt any smoke before the crash, there was smoke after the wreck and from the airbags going off. Also I bet you didnt hear on the news that he was supposedly being chased by police also.

sorryajfrye
Bob7732-- uh, why should the person in the crown vic get charged or as you say get jailed for life?? If it's proven that he didn't have a clue about the race or people in the street, why??

Snowflake
If the road is know as a drag race area why aren't the police there? They are always sitting at the bottom of a hill to get you going 5 or 10 miles faster because you're going down hill. What the people did was stupid and speed kills, no matter whether you are in a car or gulping down pills. If this area is known for speed racing, put up camera's, speed bumps if the police can't be there. Too many people dying just to watch someone race..stakes must have been high, but most will never collect there money, all they got was the death card. I feel sorry for the families but most of them were out there watching also. If you live by the sword you will die by the sword, and old but true phrase.

Star Child
Almost all of the people in the story were old enough to have kids in their twenties, some were old enough to be grandparents. Why were they behaving in such a reckless manner? What were they thinkking? This is so wrong, what examples are we for the children who are at the age, to be attracted to such adolescent behavior? Someone has to set the tone for the children. I pray that the children see the danger in racing period, and some will turn away from it.

Fredman
Whole families were there watching. They all had something to do with it. Each and every one of them should be fined. They are blaming the police for this. Yet again the criminals of PG County refuse to take responibility for their actions. Behold, here lies the product of the PG county/DC school systems. Remember to re-elect your local officials. They don't like Bush so they must be good.

Dr. James Watson for president !.

SpareMe
newsjunky: I think posters are thinking about the family...however those that attended weren't. I understand what you mean and all but when you do illegal things sometimes it can backfire...it the worst way. These nuts didn't have sense enough to if they are going to watch...watch from the sidelines..NO they were standing in the middle of the street at the darkest time of the night....IN A CLOUD OF SMOKE.....brilliant, pure genius, can one get any smarter!!

I think posters have sorrow, remorse but how much can one truly show whe people lost their lives due to their own dumbness..and to have your 13 yr old out breaking the law with you is crazy. Now I can't completely fault the mother because from what it appears..she learned it from her father...who might I add lost his life..so HOPEFULLY SHE HAS LEARNED SOMETHING.

In addition..the families want the driver charged to the fullest...if they charge the driver..they need to charge everyone out there..dead and alive. Because if it wasn't for them...they would still be alive.

BOB7732
AMEN on all your posts, & for the record. I don't feel sorry for any of them either, reasons; 1 Drag racing is so stupid, there are tracks for such a sport [bet none of them wore a seat belt]? 2 Why would want to stand in the road to watch it [can we say sueside]?

STUPID, STUPID, PEOPLE. Must have been on drugs or drinking. God will judge them & guess what, the speeders + the person in the white car will go to jail [& hope get life in jail for all they killed], but they have to face God who will judge them for their actions. Bob

God bless you all & good day!

Bandit
I think if you need to drag race take it to a local drag strip were anything happens is in a controlled environment and not out on a public highway and especially at 3:00 in the morning...Maryland International Raceway opens up in about 2 weeks. bring your street cars and whatevers to the track and race safely. This was totally stupid on all parts.....GOD SPEED!

Prettyboy
So many stupid people out there .. um.. I lost count..

newsjunky25
Yes, what they were doing was not smart and yes, it was dangerous. But ignorance does not make someone worthy of death. I grew up in southern Maryland, very close to where this happened. Street races are very common down there, which is bad. It is a problem that puts innocent lives in danger and those who are involved in it should be punished harshly. However, with that said, the families of those who were killed had nothing to do with what their loved ones were doing that night yet THEY are the ones left behind to morn. The comments on this story are very disturbing. Lives were lost...how about a little respect.

Winstrv
I hope one of the memorials is a dunce cap to remind others of how stupid these people were for being out at 0300 AM to watch and participate in an illegal activity. I wish the news would stop showing relatives wanting answers as to why their loved ones got killed. If you don't know why, your as stupid as they were.

TBA
You want to know whats more DANGEROUS? Illegal Immigrants with DRIVER LICENCES, YES I SAID IT. MD Gov is DUMB for issuing driver licence to illegals. THAT IS MORE DANGEROUS, due to the fact if they get in an accident and kill a person they just run right back over the border and the Mex Gov protects them. I've been hit by a MD driver whom is an illegal with an MD drivers licence. Nothing happen to him because he ran back over the border when the court papers went through it is found that his drivers licence was LEGAL yet when he was ILLEGAL.

Coffeehigh
Street racing FANS? Is there a red light runners club, too?

gloria1107
I agree Tuck - and I thank God others who were not participating were not killed or injured. Those idiots have evidently never had an concern for others or their welfare or they would not be putting so many people in danger. Like you I have no sympathy for those who condone it either.

Crash11
Oh well.. I don't feel sorry for any of them. You want to watch something illegal and endanger innocent drivers by drag racing. I say if you play with fire you will get burned and thats what happened here.

holtonfb
this is an international problem ..not just here but in California .. the mid-west and Canada .. near toronto .. one the cable channels had an entire show on this (toronto) over the weekend ... usually it's injuries and deaths to cross traffic or innocent citiznes down track .. I feel sorry for the guy driving the car that hit all those people ..

Tuckmeister
You know what? I don't feel sorry for people who encourage such a dangerous and illegal activity. What if one of those cars killed an innocent diver on the road or an innocent pedestrian who has nothing to do with their activities? THAT is why I don't feel sorry.
