Unfortunately here in PG County, very seldom, if at all, are harsh penalties handed down for traffic offinses. For example, if you are arrested for driving while suspended, all you have to do is come to court with a valid driver's license and they drop the charges. Driving while suspended in Maryland carries a max penalty of 90 days in jail and up to a $1000 fine. While in some counties people may go to jail for driving while suspended, in PG county that doesn't happen. The courts have to start taking this more seriously rather than the police, because the police can only do so much.

gloria .. well law enforcement could used encrypted radios .. and/or cell phones .. or intell and dispatch .. the cops could use their private vehicles units could hide at a distance .. and use helicopters .. as for laws.. make engageing in a speed contest on a public highway a bailable offense.. and a felony under certain circumstances .. with license revocation for participants, as well as confiscation of the vehicle .. and spectators liable for fines and possible prison time if an injury and'or death occurs ...

All well and good AAA but I did not see you offer a solution for first catching the offenders. That seems to be a problem as I understand the racers or their lookouts have all the latest equipment so they are way ahead of the police. But also remember in this case it was the spectators who were injured and killed. So perhaps if people stayed home where they belong at 3 A. M. and not encourage this type thing it might slow down.
