MCA..his lic could have been suspended for numerous reasons...I know folks that have suspended dr lics for failure to pay child support..so you never know. Regardless if those folks were on the side of the road and not the middle..they may still be alive.

MCA, while the man certainly shouldn't have been driving on a suspended license, I can assure you that licenses are suspended for a whole range of reasons, ranging from dangerous driving to failure to pay a ticket. I have a clean driving record - five safe driving points - yet my license was suspended many years ago because I forgot to pay a ticket for an expired inspection sticker. So let's hold off on assumptions and wait for further information. REGARDLESS of his license status, the fact remains that those racing AND those attending were breaking the law, too. They were also beyond foolish for rushing out onto a darkened HIGHWAY where the posted speed limit was 55 mph. We've all seen wreckers carting away the crushed hulks of cars involved in accidents while going far less than 55 mph, and they're made of metal. What sort of damage do you think happens to the human body when hit by a 4000-pound vehicle traveling at 55 mph? That, combined with the limited reach of headlights and the length of road it takes to stop a car at 55 mph would make it all but impossible for him to avoid the crowd. Bottom line, for me, is that the racers broke the law, and the spectators exhibited severely flawed judgment by stepping out into what they had to assume was the path of vehicles on a highway.

The Crown Vic driver was on a suspended license. News reports say that this was the SECOND time his license has been suspended.

Twenty years old and twice having a suspended license? My God in Heaven - how can he drive down the street without running off the road?

He may not have been drinking but that's about the only thing he hasn't done wrong. You'll have a hard time convincing me that he wasn't speeding. No you won't - you'll never convince me.

This is really sad. If you support the illegal races then support the police when they are trying to figure out what happened.

Since this tragedy occurred, all we've seen on TV is family and friends of victims and spectators of the what happened, saying they want the "truth" to be told. So, why aren't any of the spectators willing to talk to authorities if they want the "truth" to be told so badly? If it were someone I loved who was killed and I felt the whole story wasn't being told, I'd be willing to talk to anyone willing to listen to me!

If the spectator witnesses wanted to orchestrate their version of a story about why this tragedy wasn't solely the fault of the dead, it won't work when the subpoenas issue and they are questioned separately. Even professional lawyers/liars like Scooter Libby's White House apologists can't do it with dedicated prosectuors in charge.
