O'Malley to Brief Reporters on Foreclosure Efforts
posted 12:02 pm Tue February 19, 2008 - Annapolis, Md.
A plan to stem Maryland's foreclosure trend is on the legislative menu for Governor Martin O'Malley. The governor plans to brief reporters Tuesday on his plans to address the state's rising number of foreclosures.

The governor has backed a package of bills aimed at the problem. The bills aim to crack down on unscrupulous lenders by starting a new crime of mortgage fraud. They would also extend the amount of time before a home could be foreclosed and give lenders more requirements for notifying homeowners their homes are being foreclosed.

The governor will talk about progress on his mortgage reform package this morning with members of his administration who work in the field. Many states are taking up mortgage reforms in hopes of forestalling future foreclosure trends.
