Rash of Burglaries Leave Residents on Edge

A rash of burglaries in one Southeast neighborhood has residents on edge after neighbors say the thieves strike day and night a the complex on Mississippi Avenue.
Residents say they are contending with chronic burglaries. "Sure enough my sisters window was wide open they went open and unhooked the bars. They came in and they got right back out." The burglars are speedy and brazen, striking day or night. Several residents say they've spotted the same guy climbing up the side of a building, then leaving through the front door loaded down with stolen goods. In the community where most folks are so afraid of reprisals, they won't talk about the situation but say they've gone to police to identify the culprit, who lives in the area.
"That's ridiculous. They should do something about that. They know that the person is still lurking the area," said resident LeToya Lucas.
Lucas says she will continue her routine whenever she returns home. "To check my stuff to check my unit to see if everything is still in tact."
Police say they have had only a handful of burglaries in the neighborhood since January 1st. They assume the victims are not filing proper police reports. An investigator says he will contact the individual who can identify the one suspect.
