Walkersville to Seek State Grants for Water Connection
posted 8:46 am Fri February 29, 2008 - WALKERSVILLE, Md.
Town commissioners in Walkersville have voted to apply for state grants that could help pay for a permanent connection to the county's water supply. The connection is expected to cost between $1.2 million and $1.4 million.
Under proposals outlined this week by county officials, the connection could either follow Route 194 or Glade Road.
Talk about a permanent hookup began after the local water supply was contaminated in January by a spill from a broken pipe at a manure lagoon. The town installed a temporary above-ground connection to the county system.
It was the second time in nine years that the town's water supply was contaminated.
A decision on the grant application isn't expected before next January.
