WASHINGTON - Family and friends are asking for the public's help finding a missing autistic teenager who hasn't been seen since the first anniversary of his father's untimely death.

William Van Croft's loved ones held a vigil for the missing 17-year-old on Wednesday. They say Billy, as he's known, suffers from Asperger's Sundrome, a high-functioning form of autism.

"He's generally very friendly, approachable -- he'll speak to you," his aunt, Angela Vancroft, said. "But because he's not on his medication, he's probably a little agitated."

William was last seen at about 4:30 pm on Thursday, January 31, in the 1300 block of G Street SE. Family members say he disappeared exactly one year after his father, William Arthurt Van Croft III, was struck and killed by an automobile while walking along Route 301 in Upper Marlboro, Md.

The younger William was described as a medium complexioned black male, 5'8" tall, weighing about 168 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a burgundy sweater. He is in need of medication and may appear to be disoriented.

Anyone who has information regarding William Van Croft's whereabouts is asked to call police at (202) 727-9099.
