TONIGHT FROM 7 ON YOUR SIDE: THE HAMMER IS COMING DOWN ON TICKETMASTER. CONSUMERS ARE FED UP WITH HIGH TICKET PRICES AND SO ARE LAWMAKERS, BUT THE BIGGEST VOICE IN ALL OF THIS IS THE BOSS HIMSELF, BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN.
7 ON YOUR SIDE'S ROSS MCLAUGHLIN EXPLAINS.
Ross:
THE BOSS IS FURIOUS OVER THE WAY TICKETMASTER IS DOING BUSINESS. YOU WANT A TICKET FOR HIS CONCERT AND TICKETMASTER HAS IT, BUT NOT ON TICKETMASTER.COM. IT'S ON TICKETMASTER'S OTHER SIDE, TICKETSNOW.COM, AND IT'S WAY ABOVE FACE VALUE.
Script:
Ginny Stengel:"I've seen him since the early 80's."
GINNY STENGEL IS A BIG BOSS FAN.
Ginny Stengel:"Every venue around here every time he comes to town I get tickets."
NOT THIS TIME. BECAUSE WHEN SHE CHECKED TICKETMASTER THEY WERE SOLD OUT FOR THE VERIZON CENTER. TICKETMASTER SAID TO CHECK THEIR OTHER WEBSITE TICKETSNOW.COM, WHERE THEY'RE STILL BEING
SOLD AT MUCH HIGHER PRICES.
Ginny Stengel:"$100 more, literally two minutes after tickets went on sale. I think it's a scam, I really think it's a scam."
LAW MAKERS ARE OUTRAGED.
Rep. Bill Pascrell, D-N.Y.:"We want an end to the legal scalping in America."
Sen Charles Schumer, D-N.Y.:"It made Ticketmaster a lot more money and left countless citizens who wanted to see the Boss shut out."
SPRINGSTEEN RESPONDED IN A LETTER STATING:
"The abuse of our fans and our trust by Ticketmaster has made us as furious as it has made many of you."
TICKETMASTER HAS APOLOGIZED FOR ANY MISUNDERSTANDING AND HAS REMOVED THE LINK TO TICKETSNOW.COM, BUT IT'S NOT OVER. INVESTIGATIONS HAVE BEEN LAUNCHED AND CONSUMERS, LIKE STENGEL HOPE SOMETHING IS DONE.
Ginny Stengel:"I hope Ticketmaster is called on the carpet and do more than just give us an apology."
Ross:
TICKETMASTER MAKES NO APOLOGIES FOR THE TICKETSNOW WEB SITE. THE COMPANY SAYS IT DOESN'T DIVERT TICKETS TO THE SITE OR CONTROL PRICES. BUT THE SITE IS JUST LIKE ANY OTHER TICKET BROKERING WEBSITE AND CRITICS SAY A COMPANY LIKE TICKETMASTER SHOULDN'T BE PLAYING BOTH SIDES OF THE FENCE.
