Mitchellville, Md. - Thousands of people lined up at Six Flags America amusement park Saturday, competing for hundreds of jobs available for the park's upcoming season.
Fifty-year-old Phillip Williams has a front seat on the roller coaster ride of the job market.
"Had my ups and downs, but you know everything works out," Williams said.
After seven years of warehouse work, Williams was let go last week. Now he's holding out hope that Six Flags America will hire him, employing him in some form for their season.
"People want to know that there are jobs in the area, and there are jobs for everybody," said, Julie Filz, of Six Flags America.
At least 1,500 will find work at the park from April through October. And in the long line of potential employees some, like Williams, are, for the first time, unemployed while others are looking for their first job.
"First job interview; kind of nervous. I need the money," said, Keith Lawson, a job applicant.
Then there is Nina Proctor, worried about security in her current job, and she's not alone. She says she'll work two jobs just to be safe.
"It doesn't matter; I'll clean up; I'll cook; I'll stand at the gate; I'll be a cashier; I'll be in the stores. Whatever, it's nothing," said, Proctor, a job applicant.
"I hope it works out; maybe give me some good news. I'm keeping my fingers crossed," Williams added.
