A hospital spokeswoman says former Governor William Donald Schaefer was treated and released from a Glen Burnie hospital Thursday after injuring his nose in a fall. Mary Lanham, a spokeswoman for the Baltimore Washington Medical Center, says Schaefer was taken to the hospital late this afternoon and was released around 8:15 p.m.
Lainy LeBow-Sachs, a longtime Schaefer friend, told the (Baltimore) Sun that Schaefer tripped on a curb at his Anne Arundel County home. Schaefer cut himself on the nose and needed stitches.
Besides governor, Schaefer also served as state comptroller and mayor of Baltimore, and is well known for his irreverence. Schaefer's public career ended in 2006 when he finished last in a three-way race for the Democratic nomination for comptroller.
