A 24-year veteran of Federal Law Enforcement and Internal Affairs will be doing time in federal prison after harboring his girlfriend, an illegal alien.
The I-Team reported this unusual case back in February. Lloyd Miner was an internal affairs chief within Homeland Security and a whistleblower. In a separate criminal investigation, to which Miner had no connection, federal investigators stumbled on the fact that Miner was living with a woman whose student visa had expired.
Miner entered federal court in Alexandria (

The prosecutor argued that Miner be held to a stricter standard.

Rosemary Jenks, who knew Miner through her work fighting for tougher immigration laws, was amazed by the government's action.
"The precedent that the case sets is that anyone, anyone of us, if we're dating someone who is foreign born and happens to be illegal, you're going to jail," Jenks said.
The federal prosecutor asked to seize Miner's house, but the bank had already foreclosed on it. The only asset left, Miner's Hummer, the prosecutor argued should be seized because Miner had transported his girlfriend in it.
Judge Liam O'Grady agreed. He called Miner's crime "a shame" and sentenced him to 12 months in prison and three years of probation.
Following sentencing Miner was taken into custody and has 10 days to appeal his sentence.
