Detectives from the Montgomery County (web|news) Police are investigating a bank robbery that occurred today at approximately 10 a.m., at the Provident Bank located at 5416 Wisconsin Avenue in Chevy Chase.

This bank robbery is believed to have been committed by the same suspect linked to two previous bank robberies at the United Bank branch located at 7535 Old Georgetown Road in Bethesda, which occurred on March 6 and March 12, 2008.

In each incident the suspect was described as a white male, 40 to 50 years of age, 5'7" to 5'11" tall, weighing 180 to 220 pounds. He is balding with gray hair and was described as unshaven during the March 6 incident; however photos released show a mustache. This morning he was wearing a black long-sleeved shirt, a black vest, and black pants and shoes.

Today's bank robbery follows the same M.O. of the previous two incidents in Bethesda where a male suspect entered the bank armed with a handgun, demanded money, received an undisclosed amount of cash and fled on foot. No one was injured and he was last seen walking across Wisconsin Avenue.

The March 12 incident occurred at approximately 10:40 a.m. The male suspect entered the bank and approached a teller. He displayed a handgun and demanded cash. No one was injured and the suspect fled on foot in an unknown direction.

The March 6 incident occurred at approximately 11:00 a.m. The male suspect, who was armed with a handgun, demanded cash. Again, no one was injured and the suspect fled on foot.

Anyone who has information about this suspect and/or any of these bank robberies is asked to call the Robbery Section at 240-773-5100. Callers may remain anonymous.
