Typical Frosh. I remember once when I was at a debate when he was running for state Senate, some residents in his district asked him how they could get some sound blocking walls put up alongside the section of the beltway that ran by their neighborhood. He just blew them off, telling them that thair homes were built before the beltway, so too bad. I thought at the time -- whoa, this guy is supposed to be their advodate in Annapolis -- he's supposed to try to help them figure out a solution. It's hard to see why he keeps getting re-elected.

to brian frosh .. dialysis and chemo are procedures done om specific days .. and for the most part .. specific times .. what's the point of having someone on dialysis ot chemo report for jury duty when they can't pull a trial that will last more than a day .. and certai8nly not a week or more .. and the woman did offer to pull a jury call later in the year when her child is older .. I have only one word for the judge and Frosh . STUPID

This can be seen as a human rights violation of the child. I hope the judge and related boobs are prepared for a fight. THANK YOU, MS. JETT, FOR NURSING YOUR PRECIOUS CHILD! C'mon to Illinois! We understand that breastfeeding is natural and necessary. We put children first. Maryland lawmakers are a bunch of ignorant, formula-fed clods.

Jury Duty is a noble thing but, given the massive amount of potential jurors in this country, nobody should have to be put under any kind of threat because of it. If this woman can't afford a $150 fine then it's pretty obvious she can't afford daycare or maybe even infant formula. You see here the limits of a judge's "liberal discretion" - once in a while you have to deal with an individual who's an inconsiderate activist or outright egomaniac. But then again - to charge her just for requesting a postponement? PU-LEAZE!!! If the facts here are accurate, this is an abuse! ABC7 please keep us posted

Please my state liscened daycare provider was forced to close her daycare for a day because they would not left her out of jury duty (even though there is a clause that states she could be excused). She works alone because it is hard to find good help that she can trust around "her babies". When it was explained to the jury office they could care less that not only were they causing her to lose money but parents to take off of work...they made her serve any way. Luckly her daughter was able to take off the rest of the time she had to serve on jury duty and watch the kids.

The state does not care. How about take those on unemployment and make them serve. How about take those on welfare and make them serve. How about allow folks to volenteer to serve as much as they want. There are seniors that have nothing else to do maybe they would like to serve more then once in a blue moon.

I predict that there will be such a public outcry over this that the judge will be forced to excuse Ms. Jett from jury service.

This judge needs to be ashamed of himself. He needs to step down for being so inconsiderate. She didn't ask to skip jury duty and not do it at all but she simply asked for postponement of it. How simple could that be.

Personally, I think a jury of your peers to determine your fate is stupid. You have 8 people sitting there listening to arguments from both sides, 5 of the 8 are probably morons that haven't got a clue about anything. They believe the most beleivable side and then you get a result. Sometimes right, sometimes wrong. I think experienced judges should be the one determining sentencing, who know the law and are FAIR ("fair" is the big word there). I have NEVER been sold on our current judicial system. Look at all the mistakes that are made.

Hmm
Anyone on chemotherapy or dialysis should not be forced into close quarters with other people because their immune system is compromised, and breastfeeding mothers shouldn't be forced to be in crowds because they can pass illnesses on to their infants. This judge is ignoring medical science and sounds like a bully.

Judge Barry Hughes is incompetent and a misogynist and should be jailed for stupidity.

I would like to contribute to this woman so she can pay her fine. It's scandalous that she would not be excused and permitted to serve another time. I question the judgment of the idiot who held her in contempt for simply making the request. I also think that those on dialysis or undergoing chemotherapy should similarly be excused. What ever happened to common sense and compassion?

Judy LS
I am stunned by the total disregard and ignorance expressed by both the judge in this case and Brian Frosh. This is an infant being fed in the most healthful manor possible, during a crucial developmental period, and to punish a mother for wanting to provide the best for her baby, And to punish her just for asking! I hope the voters of Carroll County remember this judge and, if an elected official, make sure Barry Hughes is not elected again. And I can only hope to get Brian Frosh or a member of his family in my hospital to remind him about how casual he views "kidney dialysis, chemotherapy and all the other maladies that afflict the human condition."

I too am ashamed that this happened in the state I call home.

That Carol County Judge and Brian Frosh both deserve to be kicked out of office. Whatever happened to a govt. of the people, by the people and for the people...just not in MD? What did this woman ask for? A postponement so she could get child care and her baby would be older...oh how awful!

Is MD so destitute of juror's this woman's request couldn't be accomodated? And as for Frosh, yes if a person is battling a severe illness, chemo, radiation and assorted therapies, they should be given every consideration.

Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness...just not in MD?

Be ashamed and I hope the ACLU comes to this woman's aid!

KLOGO
Now that really doesn't make any sense. Jail time or a fine, just for asking for a postponement.

Yop
Am I ready this correctly - this person was sentenced to jail or a fine for MERELY ASKING that her Jury Duty be postponed? This is ludicrous.
