It appears that Maryland lawmakers aren't interested in revising plans to require exit exams for high school students.

Several proposals to tweak or undo a requirement that seniors starting with the Class of 2009 pass four tests to receive diplomas have not been approved by lawmakers.

Last night was a legislative deadline for bills to pass at least one chamber of the legislature to become law this year. Though that rule can be waived, most measures that don't succeed by what's called "Crossover Day" are dead for the year.

Some parents pushed for lawmakers to act on High School Assessment Exams, but state education officials argued the tests are needed to guarantee that Maryland graduates know certain things.
