The editor of the Los Angeles Times says an internal investigation will be done concerning the authenticity of documents cited by the newspaper that implicate associates of Sean "Diddy" Combs in a 1994 assault on Tupac Shakur. The investigation was disclosed by Editor Russ Stanton in a story posted Wednesday on the newspaper Web site. Stanton says he ordered the review after the editor of the Web site The Smoking Gun told the newspaper that the FBI (web) documents appeared to be written on a typewriter instead of a computer and included blacked-out sections not typically found, casting doubt on their validity.

Combs denies his associates were responsible for the 1994 robbery and shooting of Tupac Shakur at a New York recording studio.
