Memorial services are planned for this afternoon and evening in Frederick for Zach Sowers, the Baltimore resident who died yesterday after a violent attack left him in a coma for more than nine months.

The services will be held at Stauffer Funeral Home on Opposumtown Pike. The funeral will be held Saturday in Sowers' hometown of Circleville, Ohio.

Sowers and his wife, Anna, were 1998 Frederick High School graduates. Sowers was 28. He was robbed and beaten by four teenagers June 1 of last year, not far from his home near Baltimore's Patterson Park. After prosecutors negotiated plea agreements for the suspects, Anna Sowers began pushing state lawmakers this year to allow prosecutors to pursue murder charges in assaults that leave victims comatose.
