well said roswell and katie bear. it was a terrible accident and i wish it had not happened. people rarely think about the risks and consequences when they are doing something they want to do - illegal or not. both parties were doing something illegal - the driver was driving on a suspended license and the spectators were participating in a completely illegal activity which compromised the safety of themselves and other innocent people - not to mention gambling activity. supposed the racers hit another car that night? then how would the victims family feel? it was dangerous all around and i dont know how they dont see that.

Street racing is illegal and the victims should have been in their beds at 3/4:00 am instead of standing along the side of a road.

Roswell I totally agree

What is with you people comming down on this man? This guy had a suspended liscense but he wasnt the idiots loitering all over a smoke filled meidian strip at 2 am to participate in illegal activiity. The spectators all should be cited for some charges at least. They were truly the ones here responsible for their own safety. The racing drivers as well. This guy was wrong to be driving but had not the illegal activity being taken place the driver would have struck nothing. The racers smoke obscured the road. This truely is a victim loving society where no ones ever responsible. Maryland is Wonderland .

Well said, Roswell. The man was charged with and sentenced for his only infraction, that of driving on a suspended license. Those who made the bad decision to participate (whether by racing or spectating) are responsible for the accident and whatever happened to them. I know the families of victims are grieving, but nothing will be gained by shifting blame to make themselves feel better. In fact, unless there is a radical change in the culture of street racing, more deaths will undoubtedly occur. Until it's socially unacceptable, you'll have more cases of children, parents, and grandparents gathering in the dead of night on a dark road to watch illegal activity, as if were as normal as a day at the park. It's not - it's a crime, and if you choose to participate, you have to accept the risks.

It was a terrible ACCIDENT. But let face it. They should not have been racing and those people should not have been standing in the middle of the street.

Roswell
Guys, face facts. Aside from the technicality of a valid license, he did nothing wrong that night. He wasn't drunk, wasn't speeding, didn't run any lights. He was driving along, minding his own business, and didn't expect a bunch of people to be standing in the highway in the dark. The spectators should have stayed off the road, then there wouldn't have been any problems. He should be punished for driving without a license, but that didn't cause the accident. Pedestrians standing around on a high-speed road in the dark caused the accident. Any driver who happened to be on that road that night would have done the same.

Man oh man I want the name of that attorney who defended this creep. Sounds to me like he really really and I mean really got off easy.
