Police are warning women in the Riverdale Park area after a woman was dragged at gunpoint into a dumpster and savagely assaulted.
According to investigators, the woman was walking toward the bus stop about 10:00 p.m. Thursday in the 5500 block of Kenilworth Avenue when she was approached by the man who was armed with a silver handgun. The gunman forced the 58-year-old victim inside a dumpster, and sexually assaulted her.
After the assault, the suspect fled the scene on foot.
The victim immediately called police.
"This is an unusual crime; it is a horrific crime. It's one we don’t want to see repeated," said Riverdale Park police chief Theresa Chambers. "The best chance of that stopping in its tracks is getting the community involved."
Detectives from Riverdale Park police and Prince George's County police are canvassing the area, hoping to find another witness.
The gunman was described as a Hispanic male in his twenties, approximately 5'1 to 5'5, 150 pounds, with a light complexion and faded hair cut. He wore a green and gray long sleeved shirt, blue jeans and white sneakers.
Police are offering a $25,000 reward for information in the case.
