Matt Cullen had the other shorthanded goal for Carolina, and added a pair of assists. Eric Staal scored on a penalty shot, and Chad LaRose posted a goal and assist for the Hurricanes, who have won two of three. Cam Ward turned aside 39 of the 41 shots he faced in the win. The Capitals have lost their last two games and given up a total of 11 goals in those contests. Michal Neuvirth surrendered all five goals on 30 shots in the loss.

Final Score: Florida 4, Atlanta 3

Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Michael Frolik scored twice to lead the Florida Panthers in a 4-3 victory over the Atlanta Thrashers at Philips Arena. Cory Stillman collected a goal and an assist and Stephen Weiss helped set up three scores as Florida followed a big win over Southeast Division-leading Washington on Sunday with its third win in the last four. Richard Zednik also scored for the Panthers, who finished off a five-game road trip at 3-2. Tomas Vokoun earned the win with 27 saves in his return, after sitting out four games with an ear infection. The surging Panthers are trying to make the postseason for the first time since 1999-2000 and just finished off an 8-5-0 February prior to their triumph over the Caps. Ilya Kovalchuk, Colby Armstrong and Jim Slater lit the lamp for Atlanta, which has dropped four of its last six games. Kari Lehtonen finished the game with 30 saves.

Final Score: New Jersey 3, Toronto 2 (OT)

Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Johnny Oduya scored the game-winning goal with 11.4 seconds remaining in overtime as the Atlantic division-leading New Jersey Devils edged the Toronto Maple Leafs, 3-2, at Air Canada Centre. With the score deadlocked at 2-2 at the end of regulation, each team had several chances in the extra period, but Toronto got caught in an odd-man rush late and the Devils ended it. Brian Gionta led the 2-on-1 break and took the slap shot from the middle of the right circle that Vesa Toskala got a piece of. However, the puck trickled behind the netminder and Oduya, skating hard, put it home before the net came off its pegs to give New Jersey the win. David Clarkson and Patrik Elias also tallied for the Devils, who have won four in a row and nine of their last 11 overall. They maintained a nine-point lead over Philadelphia for the top spot in the division. The Flyers defeated Boston 4-2 earlier on Tuesday night. Martin Brodeur was steady between the pipes for New Jersey, turning aside 30-of-32 shots and now has 548 career wins, three shy of Patrick Roy for most by a goaltender in league history. John Mitchell accounted for both Toronto goals, while Toskala made 50 saves in defeat. The Maple Leafs, who saw their four-game winning streak halted, have earned at least one point in seven straight contests.

Final Score: Calgary 6, Ottawa 3

Ottawa, ON (Sports Network) - David Moss notched his first career hat trick and the Calgary Flames doubled up the Ottawa Senators, 6-3, at Scotiabank Place. Jarome Iginla followed up a record-setting performance on Sunday against the Lightning in which he collected his career 400th goal and moved past Theo Fleury for first-place on the franchise's all-time scoring list, by posting two more scores. The All-Star right wing has racked up 12 points (6 goals, 6 assists) over his last four outings. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Warren Peters scored the first goal of his career for the surging and Northwest-division leading Flames, who have just two losses in their last nine games and claimed victory for a fifth straight time on the road. Miikka Kiprusoff bounced back with a win behind 22 saves after getting yanked in the 8-6 loss to Tampa Bay, having allowed five goals on 19 shots. Nick Foligno posted a goal and an assist for Ottawa, which has suffered from a lack of consistency of late. The on-again, off-again Senators dropped their sixth game in the last seven following a season-best five-game winning streak. A four-game losing streak preceded their new-found winning ways. Their record on this eight-game homestand now sits at 1-2-1. Alex Auld got the start between the pipes but was pulled after allowing four goals on just 15 shots. Brian Elliot took over in the third and made six saves the rest of the way.

Final Score: Pittsburgh 3, Tampa Bay 1

Final Score: Nashville 6, Edmonton 5 (OT)

Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Jason Arnott's power-play tally 2:31 into overtime lifted Nashville over the Edmonton Oilers, 6-5, and increased the Predators' winning streak to a season-high five games. In the extra session, Edmonton defenseman Jason Strudwick went to the penalty box for high- sticking, giving the Predators a 4-on-3. Nashville kept constant pressure in the Edmonton zone, and a little more than a minute into the power play, Predators defenseman Shea Weber blasted a point shot from the left side. It missed, but bounced hard off the back boards to the right side. Arnott was there and sent the puck through a crowd of players, several of whom had trouble locating the puck off the previous shot, into the net for the game- winner. Arnott added a pair of assists, while David Legwand and Steve Sullivan each had a pair of goals for Nashville, which had previously won four in a row from February 1-6. Ryan Suter also scored for Nashville, while Pekka Rinne took the win despite giving up five goals on 28 shots. Sam Gagner had a goal and two assists for Edmonton, which has lost two of three. Erik Cole, Andrew Cogliano, Jean-Francois Jacques and Marc Pouliot had a goal apiece for the Oilers, while Dwayne Roloson allowed six goals on 43 shots in the loss.

Final Score: Detroit 5, St. Louis 0

St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - Chris Osgood posted his first shutout of the season and 48th of his career with a 22-save performance, as the Detroit Red Wings defeated the St. Louis Blues, 5-0, at Scottrade Center. However, it wasn't all good news for the defending Stanley Cup champions. Early in the first period, right winger Marian Hossa, who was making his return to the lineup after missing the previous two games with a neck injury, crashed violently head-first into the end boards at the 5:24 mark. Hossa, who leads the Red Wings in goals this season with 34, remained down for several minutes before being taken off the ice on a stretcher. Tomas Kopecky registered a short-handed goal and collected two assists for Detroit, which rebounded from an 8-0 drubbing on Saturday at the hands of the Nashville Predators. Henrik Zetterberg, Valtteri Filppula, Kris Draper and Niklas Kronwall also tallied for the Red Wings. Chris Mason surrendered all five goals on 36 shots for St. Louis, which had a three-game win streak snapped.

Final Score: Vancouver 4, Minnesota 2

Vancouver, BC (Sports Network) - Pavol Demitra and Steve Bernier had the tying and go-ahead goals 28 seconds apart late in the second period, as the Vancouver Canucks went on to a 4-2 win over the Minnesota Wild. Alex Burrows had a pair of goals on a landmark day, as earlier Tuesday, he agreed to a four-year contract extension with Vancouver. The goals increased his already career-high total this season to 18. Dan Fritsche and Marek Zidlicky had the goals for the Wild, who have lost four in a row. Niklas Backstrom allowed all four goals on 32 shots in defeat. Also on Tuesday, another four-year contract was signed, this one by Backstrom. Minnesota re-signed the goaltender to a four-year deal worth $24 million.

Final Score: Dallas 4, San Jose 1

San Jose, CA (Sports Network) - Rookie James Neal scored twice and the Dallas Stars halted their five-game skid with a 4-1 victory over San Jose at the Shark Tank. Brian Sutherby and Mike Modano both added a goal and an assist for the Stars, who avoided what could have been the club's first six-game losing streak since 1995. Marty Turco made 24 saves in the win. Joe Thornton scored the lone goal for San Jose, which has dropped three of four following a four-game win streak. This marked the first time this season that San Jose lost two consecutive games in regulation. The Sharks suffered a 3-2 setback in regulation in Montreal on Saturday. San Jose backup goaltender Brian Boucher made his third consecutive start in place of Evgeni Nabokov, who remained on the shelf with flu-like symptoms. Boucher allowed four goals on 31 shots.
