(Sports Network) - With the wins record now in his grasp, Martin Brodeur is inching closer to another fabled milestone. The Montreal native turned aside all 35 shots he faced to notch the 101st shutout of his legendary career, as the New Jersey Devils defeated the Minnesota Wild, 4-0, at Prudential Center. Brodeur is now just two shy of the great Terry Sawchuk in that category. Brodeur notched the 552nd win of his career on Tuesday against Chicago to pass Hall-of-Famer Patrick Roy for first on the all-time list. Brodeur was given a rare night off Wednesday when New Jersey lost at Carolina, but was his usual self two nights later. Patrik Elias scored twice for the Devils, who have won a club-record 11 straight games on home ice. Niklas Backstrom got the start between the pipes for Minnesota and was yanked in the second period after yielding three goals on 11 shots. Josh Harding finished with 17 saves for the Wild, who had recorded at least a point in five of their last six games coming in (2-1-3).

Final Score: Carolina 5, NY Islanders 4

Raleigh, NC (Sports Network) - Chad LaRose scored twice, including the game- winner in the third period, as the Carolina Hurricanes edged the New York Islanders, 5-4, at RBC Center. Matt Cullen had two goals and an assist while Ray Whitney and Joe Corvo each had three assists for the Hurricanes, who have won two straight on the heels of a three-game losing streak. Cam Ward made 28 saves in the win. The win moves Carolina into the sixth spot in the Eastern Conference playoff race, one point ahead of the idle Rangers, with nine games to play. Kyle Okposo and Frans Nielsen each had a goal and an assist for the Islanders, who had won four of six coming into the game. Peter Mannino made 32 saves in the loss.



Final Score: Philadelphia 6, Buffalo 4

Buffalo, NY (Sports Network) - Danny Briere scored two goals late in the second period to help the Philadelphia Flyers edge the Buffalo Sabres, 6-4, at HSBC Arena. Mike Richards had a goal and two assists while Simon Gagne, Jeff Carter and Mike Knuble each lit the lamp for the Flyers, who had dropped three of four coming into the contest. Martin Biron made 39 saves in the win. With 86 points, Philadelphia currently holds the fourth spot in the Eastern Conference with 12 games to play. Derek Roy, Dominic Moore and Thomas Vanek each had a goal for the Sabres, who have lost five of their last six games. Patrick Lalime gave up all six goals on 31 shots.



Final Score: Pittsburgh 4, Los Angeles 1

Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby both registered a goal and picked up an assist, helping the sizzling Penguins crown the Los Angeles Kings, 4-1, at Mellon Arena. Bill Guerin and Tyler Kennedy also lit the lamp for Pittsburgh, which is a staggering 10-0-2 in its last 12 games. Marc-Andre Fleury made 24 saves to notch his 30th win of the season. Veteran pivot Michal Handzus netted the lone goal of the third period -- a power-play tally -- to spoil Fleury's shutout bid. Jonathan Quick surrendered four goals on 26 shots in the loss for Los Angeles, which has lost four of five.



Final Score: Detroit 6, Atlanta 3

Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Johan Franzen registered a goal and two assists as the NHL-leading Detroit Red Wings cruised past the Atlanta Thrashers, 6-3, at Philips Arena. Brian Rafalski, Pavel Datsyuk, Jiri Hudler and Daniel Cleary also tallied for Detroit, which got its three-game road trip off to a good start and was coming off a 3-2 win over Philadelphia on Tuesday. The Red Wings have won four straight and seven of nine overall. Henrik Zetterberg had four assists in the victory. Marian Hossa, who played for the Thrashers from 2005-2008 before being dealt to the Penguins at last year's NHL trade deadline, returned to Atlanta for the first time and tallied his 36th goal of the season and added a helper. Chris Osgood turned aside 31- of-34 shots to claim the win. Slava Kozlov had a goal and an assist, while Bryan Little and Colin Stuart added markers for the Thrashers, who have dropped two straight after having their franchise-best six-game winning streak snapped in a 6-2 setback at Pittsburgh on Tuesday. Atlanta's leading-scorer and captain Ilya Kovalchuk returned to the lineup after missing the team's last two contests with an upper-body injury and registered an assist. Kari Lehtonen yielded six goals on 38 shots in defeat.



Final Score: Edmonton 5, Chicago 4 (SO)

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Patrick O'Sullivan scored the game-winner in the shootout as the Edmonton Oilers continued the Chicago Blackhawks' woes with a 5-4 win at the United Center. After Jonathan Toews was stopped by Dwayne Roloson, O'Sullivan lifted the puck over Nikolai Khabibulin. Patrick Kane was then denied his stuff attempt from the left side and Ales Kotalik sealed the win with a wrister into the right corner. Dustin Penner had a goal and an assist while Roloson made 39 saves in the win for the Oilers, who have won three straight. Martin Havlat had a goal and an assist and Khabibulin stopped 27 shots in the loss for the Blackhawks, who have dropped a season-high five straight and seven of their last eight. With the win, the Oilers now have 79 points and moved one point behind Columbus for the sixth spot in the Western Conference while the Hawks remain in the fifth spot with 85 points.



Final Score: St. Louis 3, Calgary 2

Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - Andy McDonald and Jay McClement scored 51 seconds apart in the third period to help the St. Louis Blues take a crucial 3-2 win over the Calgary Flames at Pengrowth Saddledome. T.J. Oshie scored the other goal while Chris Mason stopped 33 shots in the win for the Blues, who snapped a two-game slide. The win gives St. Louis 75 points on the season and is now just two points back of Nashville for the final spot in the Western Conference with 10 games to play. Mike Cammalleri and Dustin Boyd each lit the lamp for the Flames, who have dropped five of seven and have a three-point lead over the Canucks for first place in the Northwest Division. Miikka Kiprusoff had 25 saves in the loss.
