(Sports Network) - Brandon Roy poured in a game-best 30 points with eight rebounds and seven assists, as the Portland Trail Blazers defeated the Milwaukee Bucks, 96-84, at the Bradley Center.
Steve Blake drained six three-pointers en route to a 21-point performance for Portland, which posted a 3-2 record on a five-game road trip. Travis Outlaw had 17 points, while Joel Przybilla pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds.
"I thought it was a mental challenge tonight," said Trail Blazers head coach Nate McMillan. "I hope this is just a sign of us growing up. It was a long road trip with some tough battles. Milwaukee came out tonight very aggressive and tried to take advantage of the fact that we've been on the road. They got off to a 9-0 start and our guys knew we needed this game. They reached down deep. We got stronger, got better. We got our rhythm. We won this game by working harder."
Charlie Villanueva logged 26 points and nine boards to pace the Bucks, who completed a six-game residency with a 2-4 mark. Richard Jefferson had 16 points and Ramon Sessions scored 10 points and dished out seven assists.
"The first half we had some defensive sequences that were as good as we've had all year," said Milwaukee head coach Scott Skiles. "I felt like we played really hard. We moved the ball and played unselfishly."
Milwaukee built a 24-18 lead after the first 12 minutes and held a 43-39 advantage at halftime. Portland took control of the game with a dominant third quarter, opening the frame on a 15-3 run to assume a 54-46 lead with just under six minutes remaining. An Outlaw dunk sent Portland into the fourth quarter with a 69-60 lead.
Outlaw made two free throws and Blake knocked down a trey to make it 82-69, but a late Milwaukee surge closed the gap to 84-79 with about four minutes to go. Portland then scored the next five points to restore a double-digit lead and held on down the stretch.
