(Sports Network) - North Carolina Central University elevated LeVelle Moton to head coach of the men's basketball team on Wednesday.
Moton was a standout shooting guard for the NCCU Eagles from 1992-96 and then returned to his alma mater as assistant coach in July 2007, a job he's held the previous two seasons.
The school, which is undergoing a reclassification as an NCAA Division I program, gave Moton a five-year deal with an annual salary of $100,000.
Moton is the school's third all-time leading scorer with 1,714 points and is first with 213 made three-pointers. He replaces Henry Dickerson, whose contract was not renewed at the conclusion of the season when the Eagles went 4-27.
