State highway officials in Maryland say weekend roadwork aimed at increasing capacity on the Branch Avenue ramp on the Capital Beltway will probably cause delays in the area.
The ramp often backs up onto the Beltway.
The inner loop will be detoured for up to 17 hours starting at 8 p.m. on Friday. The outer loop will be detoured from 10 p.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Saturday. Several lanes on the left will be closed before then.
Officials say they are setting structural steel for the southbound Beltway flyover ramp to southbound Branch Avenue. Five large cranes, operating from the Beltway travel lanes, will lift the dozen 20-ton curved steel beams for the bridge.
The ramp from southbound Branch Avenue to the outer loop also will be closed from 8 p.m. Friday until 1 p.m. Saturday.
